Manenberg boy succumbs to injuries following shooting incident

Western Cape police confirmed that the five-year-old who was shot and wounded in a shooting incident in Manenberg, earlier this week, has succumbed to injuries sustained.

Ameer Abrahams was walking with his father towards a nearby tuckshop, when they were caught between crossfire hitting the boy in the head. Two other women aged 31 and 54 were also injured in the thigh and lower back, respectively.

The incident occurred on Monday at about 18:45 in Irvine Street.

‘’Be advised that the five-year-old boy died this morning (Wednesday, 2025-01-08) in hospital due to injuries sustained. The case docket will now be changed to murder and two counts of attempted murder for investigation,’’ said Captain F.C Van Wyk, Western Cape police spokesperson.

Van Wyk confirmed that three suspects aged 24, 26 and 31 were arrested on Tuesday, by Anti-Gang Unit detectives and are due to appear in court once charged.

The Manenberg Community Policing Forum (CPF) has condemned the incident.

‘’It is a sad day, and we are starting the new year with such sad news. The community is perturbed by this incident. The suspects are known to the community, and the successes to apprehending these guys (sic) was by help of community who assisted SAPS in making sure we are keeping the suspects accountable,’’ said Vanessa Adriaanse, Manenberg CPF deputy chairperson.
