Two suspects in connection with the brutal murder of a
seven-year-old girl whose body was discovered in the early hours of Wednesday
in Kuyasa, Khayelitsha, will appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
Lolitha Kowa, was reported missing on Tuesday night, from her Nambuzane Street home. Her disappearance sparked concern among residents, many of whom joined in the overnight search. She was last seen playing with a child at a nearby house.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Wesley Twigg said a
biological sniffer dog led officers directly to the property in Sindwadwa
Street where the child was last seen.
‘’ The dog reacted to blood on the mop and blood stains
on the floor of the house which is believed to be that of the child. An adult
male and female were arrested in connection with the murder this afternoon.’’
NPO, Ilitha Labantu expressed saddened and angered by the
horrific murder
‘’The murder of a child is a heartbreaking tragedy and a
painful reflection of a society lacking effective protective systems for its
most vulnerable. It exposes the gaps in community safety and the absence of
coordinated responses needed to prevent violence against children. This
appalling crime comes amid a growing trend in 2025 of violence perpetrated
against children, many of whom continue to fall through the cracks of a
fragmented child protection system. The circumstances surrounding Lolitha’s
death are not isolated; they are part of a pattern of escalating brutality that
must be met with coordinated action and urgency,’’ said Siyabulela Monakali, Ilitha
Labantu spokesperson.
The organisation called for tghe criminal justice system to
apply the full might of the law on those found responsible for committing this
crime.
‘’We cannot claim to be making any real progress as a nation
until children are safe and free from all forms of violence,’’ said Monakali.
