It has been another deadly weekend across Cape Town.
Three men aged between 18 and 39 were gunned down in
Stradford Green, Eersterivier, in the early hours of Sunday. Police say three
armed suspects entered a yard where the victims were sitting at around 00:40
and opened fire before fleeing on foot.
Two men in their 20s and 30s were shot and fatally wounded
and another man in his 30swere left injured in Montrose Park, on Sunday
morning. The motive says police is believed to be gang related.
Bush Radio News also received reports of a fatal shooting
in Beacon Valley, Mitchell’s Plain.
Police also discovered a man believed to be in his 40s, on
Sunday morning, with a fatal gunshot wound at the Sea Point Promenade’s grass
near Beach and Norfolk road. Officers confirmed an inquest has been opened for
investigation.
On Saturday evening, a teenage boy was shot and killed in
Eureka Estate, Ravensmead. Three others, aged 13, 16 and 63, sustained gunshot
wounds and were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Earlier that same day, a 19-year-old man was killed and two
others, aged 18 and 19, were wounded in Wallacedene. According to reports, the
victims were found at a local medical facility after sustaining multiple
gunshot wounds.
Police say no arrests have been made in any of these
incidents, but confirmed that investigations are ongoing.
Meanwhile, a motion to seek the devolution of policing
powers, has been passed at a City of Cape Town council meeting, last week. This
decision sets in motion a formal process for the municipality to apply for
these powers, which would enable it to assume more responsibilities currently
held by the national police force.
