Two more vehicle brands has been recalled in South Africa. The National Consumer Commission (NCC) informed consumers about the recall of Chrysler 300C and Audi A3 vehicles
Stellantis South Africa is recalling 1 213 Chrysler 300C.
According to the supplier, the recall follows defective Takata airbags. The
affected vehicles were made available from 2006 to 2010 and distributed
nationwide.
‘’On the affected vehicles, the driver airbag inflator may
rupture during the airbag deployment phase. This could result in metal
fragments striking and potentially seriously injuring the occupant or occupants
of the vehicle,’’ said Pheto Ntaba, NCC spokesperson.
Meanwhile, Audi South Africa, a division of Volkswagen of
South Africa (Pty) Ltd, informed the NCC that the recall is due to the Takata
gas generator of the front driver airbag.
‘’The propellant in the gas generator may age due to
moisture ingress and restrict the function of the driver airbag. If the
propellant ages and the airbag deploys, the gas generator housing may burst.
This may result in small metal parts becoming dislodged from the housing and
potentially injuring a vehicle occupant. According to the supplier, the two
affected vehicles are grey imports which were not imported by Audi SA,’’ said
Ntaba.
Owners of the affected vehicles are urged to take their
vehicles to the nearest authorised dealership. The necessary repair work will
be carried out at no cost to the consumer.
