The Democratic Alliance says it is currently in discussions with every political party represented in the City of Cape Town, but that these discussions are at an early stage. DA CEO Ryan Coetzee has issued a statement saying there are a variety of ways in which a government can be formed in the city, and the party is exploring all of these in an effort to find a solution that will best serve the interests of the people.
On Monday DA provincial leader Theuns Botha said the party had been offered a deal that would give it control over Cape Town. He said the offer, from the African Christian Democratic Party and smaller parties, would give a grouping of 106 seats - enough for a clear majority in the 210-seat council.
