IEC releases final poll results for the Western Cape

LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS - FINAL RESULTS ANNOUNCED

The Independent Electoral Commission has released the final poll results for the Western Cape. The Democratic Alliance won 42 percent of the vote, while the African National Congress claimed 38 percent. The Independent Democrats came in third, with 11 percent, giving it the balance of power in the city. This means that no party has won an outright majority and parties will now have to form coalitions to obtain power in the Cape Metropole, although the ID has rejected this suggestion. Any party who wants to assume executive power in the Metropole would have to form a coalition of a 106 seats or more.
