Mbeki calls for political co-operation
President Thabo Mbeki has urged parties to work together in areas where no political organization won an outright majority in last week’s municipal polls. Speaking at the final announcement of election results in Pretoria yesterday, Mbeki says political parties who used rough language to each other during their campaigns should find ways to work together to change people’s lives for the better. Mbeki also congratulated the Independent Electoral Commission for overseeing the elections, as well as political parties who had accepted defeated without contesting the results in court.
