African Horse Sickness suspected in the Western Cape
A suspected case of African Horse Sickness on a farm has compelled Western Cape veterinary authorities to ban the movement of horses in and from the Worcester and Robertson districts. This follows post mortem findings and preliminary laboratory tests that showed indications of the disease. Agriculture MEC Cobus Dowry says more tests are being done, and results should be available within a week. He says if the disease is confirmed this may negatively affect the horse export status of South Africa.
