Mgoqi has been voted out of his post
Cape Town City manager Wallace Mgoqi has been voted out of his post at a special council meeting where the validity of his contract was discussed. Mgoqi’s contract was renewed for a year by former executive mayor Nomaindia Mfeketo shortly before the recent local elections. Today’s decision means that the Democratic Alliance controlled city council does not have to give Mgoqi a so-called golden handshake in order to relieve him from his post. Earlier, several political appointees on contract in the mayoral offices were given their marching orders. DA mayor Helen Zille said such staffers’ contracts across all spheres of government lasted only for the term of the political office-bearer they served.
