TAC will go to UN meeting regardless
The Treatment Action Campaign will be represented at the United Nations General Assembly Special Session on Aids, or UNGass, - whether the South African government likes it or not. Despite the government decision not to add the TAC to the list of accredited civil society organisations before the March 29 deadline, representatives from the organisation will, if needs be, attend the meeting through other channels. Spokesperson Nathan Geffen told the Cape Times a petition is circulating through the Civil Society Coalition on UNGass, calling on President Thabo Mbeki to withdraw the government’s objection to the inclusion of the TAC as part of the official country delegations.
