Eskom boss optimistic about electricity supply
Eskom’s chief executive Thulani Gcabashe says South Africa's electricity system will remain in a tight demand-supply situation for several years and will require sustained capital spending over the next two decades. But according to Business Report, Gcabashe is confident that the country will meet its power needs this winter. He said at the African Utility Week conference in Cape Town that Eskom's enormous challenge was to replace the capacity of its existing stations, all due to be decommissioned in the next 35 years, as well as to cater for new demand. Short-term measures are being implemented in the Western Cape, which has been plagued by power outages.
