Obasanjo orders probe into fuel pipeline disaster
Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has ordered the heads of the nation’s security agencies to co-operate in providing increased security around oil pipelines across the country. Obasanjo, who is currently on a state visit to Indonesia, also ordered an investigation into the causes of the pipeline explosion in the Ilado area of Lagos where the death toll has increased to 235. According to African News Dimension, Obasanjo has warned that anyone caught in any act of vandalism would be severely dealt with. Almost two-thousand people have died in similar incidents in recent years in which people illegally tap into high-pressure fuel pipelines.
