Peace talks break down in Sudan

Peace talks on the conflict in Sudan's Darfur region have broken up after two of the region's three rebel groups said they would not sign a deal. The BBC reports that the talks, being mediated by the African Union in the Nigerian capital Abuja, ran through the night after missing a midnight signing deadline. The main rebel group, an arm of the Sudan Liberation Army, does however say it will return to negotiations in a few hours. Ahmed Tugod, chief negotiator of the Justice and Equality Movement, the smallest rebel group, reiterated the rebels' demands for the post of vice-president in the Khartoum government, and for Darfur to have a greater share of national wealth.
