Western Cape residents have learnt to relax after power cuts ceased in February but controlled cuts could be on the cards again as soon as the beginning of next month.
Eskom has warned that the demand for power on several nights in recent weeks has been higher than the amount available. Spokesperson Philip Wahl warns that if residents do not begin to seriously save power in the peak periods between seven and nine o’clock at night, controlled power cuts could be brought into effect again. Die Burger reports that businesses in the city centre have been waned about lights burning unnecessarily at night. Power to these buildings could be switched off if people ignore the pleas to save electricity.
