South Africa and Namibia to conduct studies on the Orange River
South Africa and Namibia are to conduct additional studies to further develop the Orange River which acts as a natural border between the two countries. Government information service BuaNews reports that in order to make more water available to users on the Lower Orange River, a new dam is being considered at Noordoewer to regulate water. Water Affairs and Forestry Minister Buyelwa Sonjica met her Namibian counterpart Nickey Iyambo on Friday and agreed to improve the monitoring and operation of the existing dams on the river. Future developments along the Orange River include the Tandjeskoppe Irrigation Project in Namibia near Noordoewer and the second phase of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project.
