Tenth anniversary of the constitution today
By Busisiwe Mtabane
Today is tenth anniversary of the South African constitution. The constitution is widely seen as among the most progressive in the world. It was adopted on May 8th in 1996. Addressing crowds in Khayelitsha on Sunday at an event organised to celebrate the constitutional democracy, Cyril Ramaphosa, who was involved in drafting the document, says South Africa’s constitution was one of the only constitutions in the world that clearly expressed that its people should have a better life and reach their optimum level in life.
President Thabo Mbeki will address a special session today to mark the constitution’s tenth anniversary.
