Violence at a PE train station claims a life

One person has been shot dead and five others wounded at the New Brighton Railway Station in Port Elizabeth. At least seven civilians including security guards are being held for questioning. Police spokesperson Mohammed Dawid said that he could not confirm earlier reports that the group who opened fire on commuters were security guards. Volunteers from a security company contracted by Metrorail to do guard duty are believed to be part of the group of suspects. Witnesses say the trouble started when the volunteers allegedly demanded tickets from commuters. Train services between New Brighton and the city were disrupted.
