The opening match of the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup ended with the tournament hosts Bafana Bafana being held to a 0 - 0 draw against the AFC champions Iraq at Ellis Park Stadium in Johannesburg yesterday.
FIFA president Joseph Sepp Blatter welcomed the thousands of soccer supporters before the match started, while President Jacob Zuma declared the games officially open.
While in Rustenburg , North West Province , Spain crushed New Zealand 5 -0 in the other match played at the Royal Bafokeng stadium last night. Spain’s and Liverpool FC striker Fernando Torres scored a hat-trick in a space of 17 minutes.
