Hlope judgement to be delivered today

Judge president John Hlophe will know today ,if the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) will be allowed to make a finding about whether he tried to interfere in Constitutional Court cases relating to President Jacob Zuma. The South Gauteng High Court will hand down judgment in the Western Cape Judge President’s application against the JSC.

If Hlophe loses his application the council will be able to continue with its hearing into his conduct as it has already heard evidence from several witnesses, including Chief Justice Pius Langa, and it could proceed to make a finding fairly quickly.

But, if the JSC loses it would probably have to start its hearing again if the commissioners decide to continue with the Hlophe case.

In Hlope’s application was the claim that the JSC should not have continued its proceedings without him after he had asked for several postponements.
