The Minister of Communications Siphiwe Nyanda said the South African Broadcasting Corporation’s financial crisis will be dealt with as a matter of urgency.
The public broadcaster, which is R800m in the red, has asked government for a R2bn bailout. The SABC has also been under pressure from independent producers who are owed nearly R60m.
Nyanda said issues would be addressed, “We are mindful of the desperation of independent producers and so on.
“These are things that don’t have to wait for a white paper and a green paper. There are things that need to be attended to as urgently as possible.”
Nyanda said after the parliamentary proceedings an interim board will be appointed as a first step in resolving the challenges facing the SABC.
