For the first time, since his inauguration, President Jacob Zuma will address South Africa when he delivers his State of the Nation Speech to Parliament later today.
Various academics as well as opposition parties have begun speculating about what issues Zuma will focus on. Previously, health, education and housing where among the top priorities.
However, with the world economic crisis finally hitting South Africans, University of the Western Cape’s Political Analyst Keith Gotchalk says that Zuma’s speech will address the country’s financial situation.
“Clearly the current global recession is going to be top of the list. Zuma will be reading a speech written by a whole team, including those from the treasury, the ministry of finance and other economists,” said Gotchalk.
