A 49 year old man has been arrested for murder and arson in Masiphumelele, after he strangled his wife to death and set their shack alight while she was still inside.
Inspector Nkosikho Mzuku says the spouses had been arguing, when the man started beating and strangling his wife.
He then set the shack alight while the woman was still inside the dwelling.
The fire spread rapidly to nearby shacks and razed one RDP house, leaving 15 families homeless.
“We arrested a 49 year old man for murder and arson. The suspect will appear in the Simons Town Magistrates’ court tomorrow,” said Inspector Mzuku.
The deceased is survived by three children; a 13 year old girl and two sons aged 10 and 6 years old .
