According to Newsflash delegates attending the Public Sector Summit have called for the merging of the South African Police Service and other Metro police units to accelerate the fight against crime.

Last year, the Democratic Alliance reportedly promised to oppose the proposed merger through the courts if necessary.

This after deputy Minister Fikile Mbalula said the ministry wanted to merge the SAPS and Metro police units.

Delegates also proposed that the forensic laboratory services should be decentralised to reduce the waiting period for DNA results which delayed the prosecution of criminals.
