Metro police’s swift reaction after a tipped-off from members of Enkanini informal settlement in Khayelitsha has resulted into the arrest of a suspect and the confiscation of 100kg of dagga.

Deputy Chief Yolanda Faro says they were patrolling in the area when they responded to a complaint in connection with a suspicious vehicle that was parked in the area.

Faro says after closer investigation it was found that the Toyota Tazz with registration CA 436-216 was earlier reported as stolen at Harare police station.

As the officers were busy attending to the complaint, they smelled dagga from a nearby shack and investigated further.

“As we approached the shack, we noticed a man standing outside the shack, looking very nervous. The man at first refused us entry to the shack under the pretence that there are people sleeping inside,” said Faro.

Faro says upon entering the shack they discovered, two 50kg bags containing 216 dagga parcels as well as four black bags also with dagga with the estimated street value of approximately R37 280.

Faro says the suspect tried to flee, but was caught and arrested.

The owner of the shack fled the scene.
