Dawn in Japan revealed the full horror of the loss of life and damage to property caused by the biggest earthquake and tsunami yet to hit the country.
The eight-point-nine quake is believed to have claimed at least a thousand lives, although it is feared that this figure could still rise dramatically as more bodies are discovered along the country’s northern Pacific coastline.
Rescue workers and other officials and journalists could only stand in awe of the terrible power generated by Mother Nature.
Four trains are believed to have been swept away, while a ship carrying 100 people is also missing. Boats cars and trucks were simply washed away by the power of the resulting ten metre high tsunami.
