Human Settlements Minister Tokyo Sexwale announced the building of two thousand eight hundred government subsidised homes in the Joe Slovo informal settlement in Langa.
Sexwale promised an end to bad planning and high costs when he launched the project, which replaces the shacks with two bedroom homes.
He said the Ministry would allocated 400 million rands each year to the N2 Gateway project, which has sites in Langa, Guguletu, Delft and Philippi.
The Constitutional Court ruled in 2009 that the housing development at Joe Slovo go ahead.
