The Public Works Department has been tasked with the demolition of more than 8 500 unsafe schools across the country.
The Eastern Cape has 3 250 schools have been deemed unsafe for learners, with 1 600 of these being made of mud or clay.
The Independent Development Trust says the enormous task of pulling down the unsafe structures shows the Education Department’s commitment to providing a safe learning environment for all.
