WC set to ramp up the vaccination roll-out

Health professionals in the Western Cape are aiming to inoculate 60, 000 people during the country’s third week of mass vaccination. The Western Cape Health Department is planning to increase their Covid-19 sites to over 100 this week.

The province’s Covid-19 caseloads continue to increase with over 800 people hospitalised. Fifty-one new sites will be offering jabs.

Provincial head of Health, Dr Keith Cloete, said that inoculations were being increased. The Cape is expecting a third wave in the next week or two.

As of yet, 93, 000 healthcare workers have been inoculated in the Western Cape under the Sisonke programme, while 43, 000 people have so far received their Pfizer vaccines.

By the end of the week, the province will have 100 public sector facilities and an additional 15 to 20 private sector sites.
