SA prisoners prepare to get vaccinated

On Tuesday, the South African Prisoners Organisation for Human Rights that South African prisons has been dealing with overcrowding, which could lead to outbreaks, and this problem has been a ticking time bomb.

The organisation wants coronavirus vaccinations at correctional facilities to be fast-tracked.

They have confirmed that more than 500 inmates and over 100 prison officials have already rolled up their sleeves to receive their Covid vaccinations.

Since the start of the pandemic, 182 officials and 78 prisoners have sadly succumbed to the coronavirus.

After news broke that more than 138,000 prisoners are on the front for receiving vaccines, it was met with disdain by many. Currently, the Department of Correctional Services is dealing with 320 active cases, 87.5% of these are officials.

Meanwhile, SA Policing Union’s Lesiba Thobakgale said all who were eligible must get immunised.
