First funds allocated for Gautrain project
The first allocation of funds for the controversial Gautrain project has been announced. Four hundred million rands has been set aside for water, gas, electricity and sewer systems to be placed along and under the rail line, tunnels and bridges. According to reports, Gauteng premier Mbhazima Shilowa says the heads of large service providers such as Eskom, Telkom, Rand Water and Egoli Gas met on Monday the 6th to reach consensus on moving these services. Construction on the project is schedule to start during the first part of the year, with the Phase which will link Pretoria and Sandton with Johannesburg International Airport, completed first.
