Schools don’t get value for money
Members of Parliament have complained to the education minister that schools have to pay nearly ten times as much as they should for stationery. At a public hearing into the division of revenue bill, an MP pointed out that a roll of paper which cost only 27 rand in the shops could cost as much as two hundred rand from an official supplier. It is reported that education minister Naledi Pandor was happy to agree with the criticism. She said that three billion rand a year was paid out for school stationery supplies, and she did not think the country was getting value for money.
