Billions spent on SA’s airports

The Airports Company South Africa has invested five-point-two-billion rands in an infrastructure expansion programme to cater for high traffic volumes at the country’s airports. The initiative will also enable Acsa to cater for growing demand and deal with the anticipated influx of tourists for the 2010 Soccer World Cup. Key projects at Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban International Airports are already in full swing. Construction has also started at some of the country’s other airports. The company also says the emergence of low cost domestic airlines and the booming economic climate in South Africa has resulted in high traffic growth in the last three years.
