Strong earthquake rocks Sumatra
A strong earthquake measuring five-point-nine on the Richter scale rocked an area beneath the sea near Aceh province on Indonesia’s Sumatra island on Saturday morning. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries. The Jakarta Post reports that the quake was centred 47 kilometres under the sea in the Indian Ocean, about 95 kilometres south of the provincial capital of Banda Aceh. The province was the worst-hit Asian coastline in the tsunami of December 2004, triggered by a quake measuring nine-point-two on the Richter scale that claimed some 200-thousand lives.
