Cosatu calls for leadership from government regarding Aids

Cosatu called for presidential leadership regarding HIV-Aids, saying there was a woeful lack of proper government programmes and focus on the subject. Cosatu representative in the Western Cape Andre Kriel was speaking in Swellendam in the Overberg at a Workers Day rally where President Thabo Mbeki also addressed a crowd of mainly farm workers. The SA Communist Party added its voice to the call for more leadership from the government in the fight against Aids. News24 reports that Mbeki steered clear of the Aids issue. He said in his address that the only way to eradicate problems like unemployment, poverty and homelessness was to grow the economy. He said that the government was working hard to achieve this.
