Striking security guards cause chaos
Striking security guards caused chaos in Cape Town on Monday when they marched from the Good Hope Centre to the railway station in Strand Street. The guards had just attended a Workers Day gathering in the Good Hope Centre where they also went on the rampage. Police say the guards damaged stalls between Darling and Strand Streets and also threw bricks and fruit at the police. The group finally dispersed after police threw stun grenades in an effort to control the crowd. Six suspects, between 18 and 35 years old from Philippi, Khayelitsha and Elsies River were arrested and will appear in court today charged with public violence.
