Food and Allied Workers Union march in Paarl
Hundreds of members of the Food and Allied Workers Union are to march in the Boland town of Paarl this morning in support of striking workers at the Pioneer Foods company in Klipheuwel. The union intends handing over a memorandum to the company’s head office. The strike was called in objection to company demands that members must work compulsory overtime and on public holidays. FAWU also wants a wage increase of 180-rands for its members. The union says this should not be difficult because the company’s recent profits amounted to 30 million rand.
