Motorists warned against attacks on the N2 in Cape Town
Cape Town traffic authorities say they are under-resourced and are appealing to motorists to avoid unnecessary breakdowns on the N2 after three violent attacks were reported since Saturday. The Cape Times reports that at least 200 cars break down or run dry on the N2 every month and a large number become soft targets for crime. Provincial Traffic's N2 supervisor Brian Phillips appealed to motorists to ensure they had enough petrol, saying that people are often on their reserve tanks and then expect to be taken to a service station after running dry. Phillips added that traffic officials needed to concentrate on accidents and the patrolling of stoning and hijacking hotspots.
