The White House promise transparency after the killing of Iraqi civilians

The White House has promised a transparent investigation into the alleged massacre of 24 Iraqi civilians by US Marines. Sky News reports that at least four soldiers face murder charges and, if convicted, the death penalty. Women, children and the elderly were among those allegedly shot dead by Marines after a bomb killed one of their colleagues. Lance Corporal James Crossan, who was wounded in the roadside blast, told a Seattle television station that some of the troops might have snapped after seeing one of their own killed in action. President Bush only learned of the incident last November after reporters began asking questions.
