SA economic growth has a downside
South Africa’s rapid economic growth has a downside for consumers who have been asked to save energy urgently. The National Energy Regulator of South Africa has asked Eskom to save 153 megawatts annually. Eskom in turn has asked consumers countrywide to assist them in doing this. The company has already launched awareness campaigns in many areas. Other ways Eskom plans to save power include paying clients who generate their own power, and the implementation of radio-controlled switches for turning off geysers. Eskom says the problem has arisen as a result of the country's economy growing by 15 percent, putting a lot of strain on the energy supply in peak times.
