Zuma reinstated

Jacob Zuma has been fully reinstated as deputy president of the ANC, one week after his acquittal on a rape charge. The Daily News reports that the ANC's highest decision-making body endorsed Zuma's request to resume all his functions as the party's deputy leader on Sunday night. After much debate about the impact of the case on the moral image of the organisation the national executive committee agreed to unconditionally reinstate Zuma with immediate effect. The Women's League endorsed his reinstatement and said that while the league remained conscious of the fact that Zuma faced a corruption trial in July, he remains innocent until proven otherwise.
Meanwhile… The Democratic Alliance said earlier that the ANC should not reappoint Jacob Zuma as its Deputy President. DA spokesperson Donald Lee says Zuma’s re-appointment would only confirm the perception that a different set of standards applies to the ANC than applies to ordinary South Africans. Donald added that since the state intends to add the charges of fraud and tax evasion to the list of charges against Zuma, he should only be eligible to return to office once his name has been cleared by the courts. Donald says a person facing criminal charges is not able to provide credible leadership to the country's ruling party.
