Four men in their twenties have been arrested for the murder of Khayelitsha businessman Joseph Mtshisella after he was shot and killed in his bakkie while escorting one of his trucks that was doing a delivery in the area earlier this month.
Police spokesperson Andre Traut says on 10 January Mtshisella was approached by two armed men and robbed of his cell phone. He was then shot in his right upper leg and later died due to his injuries.
“Very determined to bring those responsible for Joseph’s death to book, detectives from Khayelitsha police pursued every possible lead which resulted in the arrest of two men aged 21 and 22.
Further investigations led detectives to the 26-year-old who supplied the firearm for the robbery and this arrest contributed to another of a 22-year-old man who was found in possession of the firearm used in the crime,” says Superintendent Traut.
The suspects are all from Khayelitsha and have been taken into custody on charges of murder - one for the possession of an unlicensed firearm. They are appearing in the Khayelitsha Magistrates Court on Monday.
