Following the minibus taxi accident on N2 earlier today that claimed the lives of two people Mayoral Committee Member Cllr Elizabeth Thompson paid a visit to the scene of the gruesome accident.
The member responsible for Transport, Roads and Major Projects reiterated that she will not stop calling for public transport vehicles to be roadworthy and drivers to be properly trained
She expressed her condolences and that of the City to the families of the deceased passengers, a male and female.
The injured were taken to Tygerberg Hospital and the GF Jooste Hospital.
“It is at this stage not possible to determine the exact cause of the accident, but the officials on the scene gave me their assurance that the matter will be thoroughly investigated,” Thompson said.
The accident occurred on the N2 between Mew Way and the R300, direction Cape Town.
ER 24 spokesperson Tristan Wadeley says when emergency services arrived on the scene, they found the taxi lying on its roof against the centre concrete barrier.
He says it appeared as though some of the occupants of the vehicle were ejected when it overturned.
