The Ramsgate High Court heard today that Charmaine Moss, who is a State witness in the drug trafficking trial of Sheryl Cwele, had a previous conviction for shop lifting.

Moss, who is a former police officer, admitted that she was arrested for theft at a Woolworths store in 2007.

The State alleges that Cwele, and her co-accused Nigerian national Frank Nabolisa allegedly conspired to recruit Moss as a drug mule.

The State also alleges that the two also recruited Tessa Beetge, who is serving an eight year a jail sentence in Sao Paulo after she was arrested with 10kg of cocaine in Brazil in 2008.

Sheryl Cwele is the wife of state security minister Siyabonga Cwele.
