Minister for Women, Children and People with Disabilities, Lulu Xingwana, says women should demand equal representation in the upcoming local government elections.
Xingwana spoke at International Women’s Day celebrations in Kimberley.
She says currently, parliament has a 44% women representation, cabinet 43% and local government 40%.
She also said a century ago, women fought for the right to vote.
Xingwana says girls need more access to education, especially in the fields of science and technology, so that they can secure their future.
