59
candidates for Western Cape commissioner for children post.
The list of
the 59 candidates nominated for the position of Western Cape commissioner will
soon be published for the public to raise objections and comment. From the 9th
October to 23rd October the list is set to be released on the
provincial legislature’s website, social media and newspapers. Objections can
be submitted via post, hand delivery or email, to the standing committee on
social development.
The
commissioner will have the power to monitor, investigate, research, educate,
lobby and advise and report on matters pertaining to children in the province. Premier
Alan Winde will receive the names and objections too, and thereafter the committee
will consider nominations and objections and invite potential candidates for
interviews.
Winde must
appoint a commissioner within 14 days of receiving the list from the legislation
after the resolution is adopted with majority of votes.
