City of
Cape Town banned fireworks at designated sites. The City’s Mayco Member for
Safety JP Smith announced there will be no fireworks discharge. Athlone CPF
Peron Aziza Kannemeyer said Athlone Stadium a former discharge site would
attract a lot of families and would discharge in that controlled environment
with it being well managed with all necessary services present. The banning of
the venue would mean everyone would do it in a dangerous area. Bishop Lavis CPF
Chairperson Graham Lindhorst said they definitely welcome the decision to not
have aby fireworks discharge sites as this comes with its own set of troubles
in their community.
