The
dangers of vaping
In South Africa, vaping is a common
practise among teenagers where the children are allowed to smoke nicotine-free
e-cigarettes and believes them to be safer than tobacco. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
warned against the dangers of vaping as the number of people afflicted by a
mysterious ‘vape lung’ condition continues to increase. It was reported that
around 450 people were affected by this condition, with five dying from it. The
Centers for Disease Control recommends that people should refrain from using
e-cigarettes products altogether, unto; a cause of the ‘vape lung’ condition is
determined.
Concerns about health consequences of
vaping are hitting the public health crisis around e-cigarettes. At least 12
people have died in the United States and hundreds of people have suffered lung
injuries after using e-cigarettes. Many patients have first experienced stomach
problems which is a range of conditions like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea as well
as fever and tiredness. The CDC says e-cigarettes should never be used by
youth, young adults, pregnant women or adults who do not use tobacco products.
E-cigarettes allow users to inhale
nicotine in vapour rather than breathing in smoke. Unlike cigarettes they do
not burn tobacco or produce tar or carbon monoxide. However they do contain
nicotine, which is addictive.
