Three arrested for house robbery in Khayelitsha

LEAP officers arrested three suspects on Wednesday after receiving a tip-off regarding a house robbery in Harare, Khayelitsha.

It’s reported that officers were asked to be on the lookout for this vehicle a Grey VW Polo. As such, LEAP officers  arranged a Vehicle Checkpoint (VCP) in Walter Sisulu Road.

‘’During their duties at the VCP, the LEAP officers recognized the Grey Polo, with 3 occupants, approaching the VCP. At this stage, the LEAP officers were not aware of the fact that the SAPS detectives from Macassar were in pursuit of this vehicle,’’ said ward councilor, Peter Helfrich.

‘’Realizing that they were at risk of being arrested at the VCP, one of the suspects jumped out of the vehicle and fled the scene. The two suspects in the vehicle were arrested at the VCP. The LEAP officers started pursuing the third suspect. The third suspect led the LEAP officers to a second vehicle (Toyota) where more suspects were arrested,’’ added Helfrich.

Officers searched the vehicle and found a 9mm firearm, with no magazine and no rounds.

The suspects were arrested for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm.

The suspects will appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates Court once they have been charged of house robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
