The Woodstock precinct acted on intelligence, when a local gang member was reported to be in possession of a firearm and ammunition in the area. After necessary investigations were conducted, police officials found the Vehicle that matched the description that the suspects were spotted on.
“The vehicle was pulled over
and the five occupants and the vehicle were searched. The members found a 9mm
Taurus firearm and seven 9mm rounds of ammunition in the vehicle. The five suspects aged between 25 and 29 were
arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition,” said, Captain
Frederick C. van Wyk, Western Cape Police spokesperson.
The suspects were apprehended
in Chester and Warwick Street in Woodstock and will be appearing in the Cape
Town Magistrate court on Thursday.
In an unrelated matter Lamberts
Bay police officers carried out a search at a location that was suspected of
storing drugs, after the officers received intel at the mentioned address.
FC Van Wyk further said that when the owner saw the police members approaching, he tried to close the door but the members managed to enter the premises.
“The members caught the
suspect with a red plastic bag in his hands which contained mandrax tablets,
small sachets of tik and an undisclosed amount of cash believed to be the
proceeds of crime,” he added.
Officers arrested the
50-year-old man for dealing in drugs and he was due to appear in the Lamberts
Bay Magistrates’ court on Tuesday.
