The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) says it condemns Aquarius Platinum‘s claim that it received a clean bill of health after a Presidential Safety Audit.
“We are taken aback and surprised that Aquarius can choose to be so economical about the truth to an extent of misleading the nation about a matter of such importance,” says Frans Baleni, NUM‘s General Secretary.
According to Baleni it is a reflection of how playful the industry is when dealing with the lives of people.
“As a matter of fact, we do not have the slightest doubt that the audits are going to produce something contrary to what the mine claim. We therefore appeal to Aquarius to be sensitive and refrain from such deviant behavior,” says Baleni.
Attempts to get comments from Aquarius were not successful.
